On April 1st, 2024, Jamyang School Leh celebrated Himalayas Bhoti Day with fervor and enthusiasm. The event was designed to raise awareness among the youth about the significance of our mother tongue, Bhoti, and to encourage its usage for preserving our cultural heritage. Additionally, it aimed to advocate for the inclusion of Bhoti in the 8th schedule of the Indian constitution.
The event, chaired by Geshe Tsultrim Tharchin, Principal of Jamyang School Leh, welcomed Mr. Tsewang Paldan Ursi, a cultural and music enthusiast, as the guest of honor.
The celebration was divided into two parts:
Morning Session: Seminar
In the morning, a seminar session was held featuring esteemed resource persons:
Geshe Lobzang Otzer, Buddhist Philosophy Teacher
Geshe Lobzang Lhundup, Bhoti Language Teacher
Mr. Tsering Tundup, Headmaster
Mrs. Stanzin Deachen, Language Teacher
Each resource person delivered insightful talks highlighting the importance of preserving Bhoti language and its cultural significance. They emphasized the role of youth in safeguarding and promoting their native language.
Evening Session: Competitions
The evening session saw various competitions among the students, including Speech, Storytelling, Calligraphy, and Poetry. Students showcased their talents and proficiency in Bhoti language.
Prize Distribution
The winners of the competitions were awarded prizes by the Chief Guest, Geshe Tsultrim Tharchin. The recognition of their efforts served to motivate and inspire the students to continue their engagement with Bhoti language and culture.
Closing Address
In his closing address, the Chief Guest commended the students for their active participation and encouraged them to continue their endeavors in preserving and promoting Bhoti language. He provided valuable insights into the origins of Bhoti language and its significance in the cultural landscape of the Himalayan region. Additionally, he called for collective efforts towards advocating for the inclusion of Bhoti in the 8th schedule of the Indian constitution.
